Catherine Hwang, MD

Board-Certified Ophthalmologist & Oculofacial Plastic Surgeon

Dr. Hwang earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology, with a minor in Sociology, from Emory University before completing her Doctor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. She remained at the University of Pennsylvania’s Scheie Eye Institute for her ophthalmology residency, then pursued advanced fellowship training in oculofacial and orbital surgery at the Jules Stein Eye Institute, UCLA Medical Center, in Los Angeles.

Following this two-year fellowship, Dr. Hwang completed an additional fellowship year in cosmetic facial surgery and rhinoplasty in Santa Monica, California. She has also undertaken international training in Europe and Asia focused on botulinum toxin, dermal fillers, and Asian eyelid surgery techniques.

Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic in 2016, Dr. Hwang served as Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, Director of Orbital and Oculofacial Plastic Surgery at the West Los Angeles Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and maintained a private practice in Beverly Hills for seven years.

Dr. Hwang lectures nationally and internationally on topics including aesthetic patient evaluation and management, facial aging, blepharospasm, and minimally invasive surgical techniques. She serves as an invited peer reviewer for multiple scientific journals and continues to contribute to peer-reviewed literature as an active researcher and educator in oculofacial plastic surgery.
